Jody Murphy
Chief Executive Officer, Co-FounderIn 1992, Jody was recruited by one of the top political strategy and direct mail firms in Florida to be a copywriter. After spending 11 years working as a writer, designer and account specialist, she becomes somewhat of an expert in direct mail communications. With variable digital print on the rise, she next partnered with Chuck Barnett and opened Barnett & Murphy, Inc., a digital direct marketing agency, to serve out their vision of direct marketing communication that is completely personalized.
While at BMI, she met Jamie Layne, a talented web architect they had recruited from Toronto, Canada. Inspired by an idea to help businesses grow through the power of referrals, they created iRefer in 2009. Quickly realizing they had something amazing in the works, the two renamed the product Expect Referrals, redesigned it become a software as a service and launched the new site in 2010. November 2011, Jody left Barnett & Murphy with Expect Referrals in hand and is focusing her full attention on her and Jamie's vision. They coined the term "social incentive sharing". Social incentive sharing is when a business creates an incentive for new customers to try them out. They then reward their current customers for sharing that incentive with their friends and family via email, Facebook or Twitter. Expect Referrals is the only software today that manages and automates the process of social incentive sharing. Jody and Jamie have big plans for making Expect Referrals the best product for this practice as well as including some consumer based features that are planned for 2013. When not working on Expect Referrals, Jody is a mom, an avid exerciser and a marketing consultant working with a few Orlando based firms.
